While viewing your network inventory via your NetPoint web site, you can also remotely connect to any system's desktop. NetPoint allows you to connect to remote desktops with the Remote Desktop software built into most modern Windows operating systems in addition to VNC. This can be configured via the Configure link on the main page of your NetPoint web site.

If you're interested in using Window's Remote Desktop, this must be enabled on the systems in your network. On an individual system this can be accomplished from System Properties by selecting the Remote tab. On Windows XP and 2003 you can access System Properties by right clicking My Computer and selecting Properties. On Windows Vista and 2008, this can be accessed by right clicking My Computer, select Properties, and click on the Remote settings link. Alternatively, you can automatically enable this on all systems in your domain via Group Policy. The Microsoft TechNet article Enable or disable Remote Desktop has more details on this.
In order to use the Local Remote Desktop Client option, the Remote Desktop Client, included with most modern Windows operating systems, must be installed on your system.
Alternatively, the VNC option is compatible with most popular VNC software, such as UltraVNC. To use this option, you must download and install the VNC server software of your choice on all systems you wish to remotely access. When installing the VNC server software, ensure to configure it for the default port of 5900.
The Local VNC Viewer option requires you to install a VNC client on your system. Alternatively, the Sun Java runtime is required for the Web-based VNC Viewer.
To ability to access the Remote Desktop of a system is available from any system or component page by clicking the View Desktop link.
