System Requirements
.

Before installing NetPoint, you should run through this checklist to ensure your computer has all of the required components.

Computer

Most modern Intel servers are capable of running NetPoint. You should not run NetPoint on the same server hosting other large enterprise systems, such as Microsoft Exchange Server and SharePoint Server.

Operating System

NetPoint is supported on 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the following operating systems:

For optimal performance, we recommend atleast 1 GB of memory for Windows XP and 2003. Atleast 2 GB of memory is recommended for Windows Vista and 2008.

Windows XP

NetPoint is compatible with Windows XP Professional Edition, but not Home Edition. Internet Information Services (IIS) is required for you to view your network inventory. If it is not installed, you may install it from Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Add or Remove Windows Components.

IIS on Windows XP Professional has a 10 concurrent connection limit.

Windows Server 2003

Internet Information Services (IIS) is required for you to view your network inventory. If it is not installed, you may install it from Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Add or Remove Windows Components. Select Application Server and double-click it to ensure ASP.NET is also selected.

Windows Vista

NetPoint is compatible with Windows Vista Home Premium Edition and above. Internet Information Services (IIS) is required for you to view your network inventory. If it is not installed, you may install it from Start > Control Panel > Programs > Turn on or off Windows Features. Select Internet Information Services and ensure the ASP.NET and IIS Metabase and IIS 6 configuration compatibility features are also selected. ASP.NET can be found under World Wide Web Services > Application Development Features and IIS Metabase and IIS 6 configuration compatibility can be found under Web Management Tools > IIS 6 Management Compatibility.

IIS on Windows Vista Home Premium has a 3 concurrent connection limit while Ultimate and Professional have a 10 concurrent connection limit.

Windows Server 2008

Internet Information Services (IIS) is required for you to view your network inventory. If it is not installed, you may install it from Start > Control Panel > Programs > Turn on or off Windows Features. Add the Web Server (IIS) role and ensure the ASP.NET, IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility, and IIS 6 WMI Compatibility role services are also selected. ASP.NET can be found under Application Development Features and the IIS 6 compatibility role services can be found under Management Tools > IIS 6 Management Compatibility.

Active Directory

Your computer must be a member of an Active Directory domain. NetPoint requires Active Directory for the automatic discovery of all computers to inventory.

.NET Framework 2.0 SP2

The .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 is required before installing NetPoint. This is not installed by default on Windows XP and 2003, however you can download it from Microsoft.

Database Software

NetPoint requires Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or 2008 to store your network inventory. Free versions of SQL Server 2005 Express and SQL Server 2008 Express are available for download from Microsoft. You can install this on the same server as NetPoint.

Client Requirements

NetPoint doesn't require any software to be installed on the computers you would like to inventory. However, computers that will be inventoried by NetPoint must be part of the same domain as your NetPoint server and running one of the following operating systems:

Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of these operating systems are supported.
